Ms Bees Knees

Tattooed Murderess Extraordinaire

Ms Bees Knees who hails from the San Francisco Bay Area has an intense fascination with words, tattoos, yoga, dirty martinis, murder, pills, erotica, hot priests, knives and Burt’s Bees lip balm. Described on her wildly popular blog I’m The Bee’s Knees, she says of herself: “I enjoy collecting and trading homosexuals, setting things on fire, doing backbends with passion because I'm a total yoga whore, playing a hearty game of grab ass and fighting 'The Man'. Oh and I'm fucking hilarious. Thanks for asking” and even described herself to me as a nerd who has only now discovered that she was, reluctantly, “hot”.

Ms Bees Knees: [laughs] Hot? Yeah, that still doesn’t sit right with me.

Tao of Tattoos: Better believe it...it’s the rest that I am concerned about!

MBK: *Blushes. Yes...it’s all true!

TOT: So Ms Bees Knees your father who passed away just recently was a part of the whole beatnik scene in San Francisco's North Beach district and rubbed elbows with some of the greats of Beat literature such as Kerouac, Ginsberg, Cassady et al. They had a massive impact on this particular beat lover growing up and inspired me to move to San Francisco.

MBK: Yes! My father was immersed in all of that. He was a writer until the very day he died. He said Ginsberg hit on him when they first met in San Francisco [laughs] and I believe him. After he delicately let Ginsberg down, they remained friends. My father was a very beautiful man. And then, I had the honor of meeting Ginsberg before he passed away. Just briefly though, at a party. He was a very gentle man! Pure and real, you could see it in his kind eyes.

TOT: Your father is once quoted as saying: The pen, likened to the sword, is really no mightier than the hand that holds it and the morality behind it and so you say you have very loose morals!

MBK: Ha-ha...yes.

TOT: Tell me how your father shaped the person YOU are today?

MBK: I have very vivid memories of my father that I have regaled on my blog. In his later years, he often called me on the phone, well past midnight, philosophizing for hours on end. He was often hilarious and, naturally, most always inebriated. Talking the words he'd written, and as a result, shaping the one who listened. Me.” He once said: "Being afraid of anything, is the first step towards getting your ass kicked by it." And so I am fearless. He once said: "Regrets are wasted tears, unless, of course, you can spare the salt." And so I have no regrets. He once said: "In my life, with few exceptions, I always knew who I was, knew what I could do, was leery of people who said, 'I couldn't do it'". And so I know myself.

TOT: Ms Bees Knees you enjoy collecting and trading homosexuals and setting things on file. What the hell is that all about?

MBK: [Laughs] Yes, that’s from my blog profile. My readership is mainly gay men, psychotic straight woman, open-minded straight men, oh and one lesbian, she knows who she is … all my readers are fascinated with the comical life, both fictional and non-fictional, of me, Ms Bees Knees. Oh and I’m a bit of a pyro, I’m afraid.

Some girls look sexy with knives and even sexier with tattoos.

TOT: You also seem to have an intense attraction to blood, murder and other gruesome things is there something you are trying to tell me...are you really a murderess?

MBK: I am, if you believe what you read. [Laughs] But let me explain: I kill only those who deserve it on my blog. I am, by no means, a random murderess. And my readers understand that, all too well. They all cheer me on. We have a common bond, you see? Killing off stupid people. It’s great fun.

TOT: What’s your favorite murdering technique?

MBK: Erotic asphyxiation, or a blade, right through to the heart. That’s a bit messy though. As you can see here.

TOT: Hmmm...

Blood, Ink & Tattoos.

TOT: Tell me the story behind your tattoos?

MBK: Sure thing. First off, all of my work, [except for the flames around my left ankle] was inked by Jesse Tuesday at Temple Tattoo in Oakland California. He’s world-known for having a classic Asian-influenced style. That’s sort of his specialty. But he can do whatever you’d like. He’s a phenomenal artist. He and the other artists there [Freddy Corbin, the tattoo shop’s owner, and Jason McAfee, to name a few] are always booked two months ahead.

The tattoo on my right arm is a sort of a china doll-butterfly. I knew I wanted very little color, yet an expressive face and very detailed wings. I also wanted my skin to show through as much as possible. Jesse sketched her up and created her in about 4 hours. She’s stunning. Jesse Tuesday also went over a star on my collarbone and a star on my back.

Then on my left arm, lower on my bicep, he tattooed a red-throated, barn swallow in flight. The detail again, is breathtaking. The bird literally looks 3D; it just pops out from my pale skin. Next month, we’ll be doing a half-sleeve around the swallow. All black and grays, I can’t wait!

TOT: Well we here at Tao of Tattoos would love to see your arm ink when its all finished.

MBK: Oh absolutely! You all will be the first to peep it. I promise! Now if you'll excuse me... I've got an assassination to tend to. Time is of the essence, you understand. I must be off!

TOT: Oh dear... errr, uhm... anyone I know?

MBK: I'll never tell... [Laughs]. Bye bye!
