Richie Z Interview!Shootin' the sh*t on tattoos and life on Mars..BlindSeven is a Hard Rock/Progressive Metal band with member's that are from all walks of life, including a moron, a retard, an idiot, a clairvoyant, a pest, and an imbecile. In this interview we speak to frontman Richie Z about his tattoos. You work out which one he is...When did you first get tattooed and what inspired you to get it done? I actually tattooed a small saying "Live Fast, Die Young" with India Ink and a needle when I was 16. I heard Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue say it and I thought I was a rebel and 'hardcore', not realizing it looked ridiculous and people were laughing AT me and not WITH me...I've covered all my other cheesy tats except that one, it has sentimental meaning...or I'm just mental, I'll let the Doctors figure that one out! Describe your tattoos and what they mean to you? My Reaper is pretty self explanatory, although it does remind me to live right. I have a 1/2 skull 1/2 chic face that I call my hoochie, kind of describes all my ex's, all pretty on the outside and just evil on the inside. Now my right arm is a Bio-Mechanical, kind of Prehistoric-Futuristic. This one is just cool. It's pretty intricate so there's alot to look at. It was a cover up. It really doesn't mean much except for the fact it makes people go.."Whoa...what is that" and parents grab their kids so as not to have the tat jump off my arm and swallow the child. Like that could happen again.
Which tattoo artists did your work? My Tattooist is Chox from www.lokitatu.com he worked at Rebel Art Tattoos in Tempe AZ (www.rebelarttattoos.com) and he is amazing. The whole Bio-Mech was done freehand. It took about 5 sessions. His coloring is amazing, I've never seen white in a tat like he does. What is a typical day in the world of Richie Z? After I milk the goats I usually go for a 32 mile hike on my bike, then at about 5 am, I sleep until about 5:03. Once I've watched the neighbor shower, I usually dress my action figures and get kicked out of Wal-Mart for putting M&M's on lay-away. The rest of the day I just put my hands in my pockets and fish for compliments.
Tell us a little about BlindSeven? BlindSeven formed around 2001. (All one word, capital B capital S..we like to be difficult) The 2 guitarists and I were in a band together but wanted to go into a more Progressive Metal direction. We're influenced by alot of bands, mainly Dream Theater, Soilwork, Pantera, Megadeth...bands along those lines. Our sound is alot different than what's coming out today. We're very melodic but powerful. Not sure what category to put us in but I like to just call it Metal, although we have been known to play some Rap-a-Billy with a mean accordian solo.
Hit me with your craziest band story... Wow just one? Ok, I use a wireless mic and I usually jump off stage and run around in the crowd. Well I did this one night and after I got into the crowd I realized I had to piss, so I wet into the bathroom and was standing at the urinal when I realized that the solo was over and I had to start singing again..so...I finished the song in the bathroom. But what great acoustics! When I was done I said into the mic "Hey guess where I am?" and flushed..When ya gotta go.... What inspires you? God. May sound weird coming from a tattooed metal-head but that's my whole reason I'm here. It's not about religion, religion is about rules and what you can do to 'atone' for your sins. What it's about is what He already did and about me being grateful for that. Favorite hangout in your hometown? Besides my bathroom, you can probably find me either at Frys Electronics or any sporting event. Any other random/bizarre facts about you? My middle name is Luke.
