It doesn't really have the meaning of "live for today", either in Japanese or Chinese. The first character means "live" or "to be born", and the second means "now". There is no meaning of "today", however, which would be 今天 (Chinese) or 今日 (Japanese).

I hope it is. I have the same one and thats why I chose it. For the meaning
