Firstly, that's a single character, although it's composed of two parts (the one on the left is the "human" radical and the one on the right would indeed mean "mountain" on its own). This character means "hermit", "wizard", or "ascended being" in Japanese.

The second sign [the one that looks like it's throwing you the finger] means 'yama [mountain]'. I *think* the first one means 'high,' not completely sure. :3
