In China, the cherry blossom is a symbol of feminine beauty and sexuality. It has also come to represent the feminine principle and love. In Japan the meaning is some what different, cherry blossoms symbolize the impermanence of life. This is immediately obvious to anyone who has been in Japan in Cherry blossom season. Although you wouldn't think this is you were strolling around Shinjuku in Tokyo. Its only when you get outside the cities do you get a glimpse of the traditional Japan. Here the pace is slower and in many ways the people have held onto their beliefs. One of the main tenets of Buddhism is the impermanence of life and the need to let go of all attachment.
